At seven in the morning, I put on the TV
Resign to lost sleep
The scummy mouth of a solo night
And a one-man binge drink
I flip to the movie channels
And land on AMC
To catch Cool Hand Luke,
Only twenty minutes in
Passing its second commercial break
I deadeye the television for what could be an hour
Could be ten minutes
I yawn a miasma of weathered phlegm and what
Smells like rotten eggs
Too much sulfur in the water here
Power the TV down in time for Luke to tell me
“What we’ve got here is a
Failure- “
